Abstract

Introduction. Field hockey is one of the oldest sports. Historians associate the appearance of games similar to hockey on the European continent with the rule of the Romans. Roman soldiers brought Paganics from Greece – a game with a bent stick and a ball covered with leather and stuffed with feathers. In its modern form, field hockey appeared in the 19th century. in England. Schools and universities were the basis of development. The development of field hockey in Ukraine coincides chronologically with its gaining independence. Since 1992, under the auspices of the Field Hockey Federation, championships of Ukraine for both women's and men's teams began to be held regularly. The main centers of field hockey development are located in Kyiv, Sumy, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. The first field hockey team in Ukraine was Spartak (Kyiv). It was created in 1977 at Chernivtsi State University. Conclusions. After the reform of the industry, new centers of field hockey development appeared on the territory of Ukraine. In recent years, in order to popularize the sport, a selective discipline of field hockey has been introduced into school programs. This will make it possible to build a clear strategy for the development of the game in Ukraine and continue the glorious traditions of women's hockey
