Competence in the context of our reasoning, on the one hand, is a characteristic of the professional activity of a specialist, and on the other hand, the peculiarity of the professional activity performed by him determines the meaningful essence of competence, determines the specifics of the composition of its components and the conditions of their formation. This dependence of competence on activity does not allow a single definition of this phenomenon, setting a new direction each time. However, considering the numerous definitions of this phenomenon, one can single out a common invariant component in them: «competence» is the ability of a person to perform a certain activity
