Abstract
Introduction. Physical culture is gaining importance as a means of optimizing lifestyle, maintaining and improving the efficiency of the student throughout his studies in higher education. At the same time, the means of physical culture provide both general and special physical training of the student in accordance with the chosen future profession. The teacher's ability to navigate in modern information support, to be able to engage in self-education, to actively search and apply new knowledge in practice – are the main components that will form the professional skills of a physical education teacher. Objective – to determine the leading factors in the formation of professional skills of a physical education teacher in a higher education institution. Methods. Theoretical analysis, synthesis and generalization of data of scientific and methodical literature on the formation of professional skills of a teacher of physical culture in a higher education institution. Outcomes аnd conclusions. The activity of a physical education teacher is not only to teach the discipline "physical education", but also the organization of physical culture and sports activities of students in extracurricular activities. The professional skills of a teacher are provided by a certain amount of knowledge, skills and abilities. Physical education teacher must know the content of traditional and innovative technologies in the field of physical culture and sports, have the forms, methods and principles of educational process, know medical, biological and psychological and pedagogical aspects in the field of physical culture and sports. A physical education teacher must have certain skills. Be able to plan, organize and conduct classes using both traditional and innovative technologies. Be able to use modern tools and methods of physical education in the classroom
